Please circulate widely in Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Dear all,
The BBC are holding a couple of meeting in the next few days. the first
is for students at Glasgow University and the other is a public meeting
in Aberdeen (details below). Critics of the BBC's coverage of Iraq
might want to take the opportunity to question these representatives of
the BBC.
If anyone wants to go to these meetings and needs a briefing, can I
suggest that you email me or sign up to the newly launched media-watch
list (To get info about signing up send a message with just the word
'help' as the subject or in the body, to:
media-watch-request at lists.stir.ac.uk Alternatively, to sign up on the
web go to: http://lists.stir.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/media-watch) There
is an archive of messages there which will provide background on BBC
coverage of the war. Also you might want to visit the Media-lens site
which has masses of material on the BBC coverage of the build up to war
(www.medialens.org).
If you go to these meetings the best advice is to try and be polite!
1. Members of the media are coming to Glasgow University to meet

2. the BBC are planning a public meeting in Cowdry Hall Aberdeen
(capacity 300) on Thursday March 6. Tickets are available from the BBC
on 0141 338 2835. My advice is to ask for tickets in twos and threes.
Chaired by Tom Morton, Hosted by Robert smith of the Broadcasting
council of Scotland and featuring BBC Scotland Head of News Blair
Jenkins, Head of Network Ken Corry, Head of Radio Maggie Cunningham and
Head of North region, Andrew Jones. 7-7.30 arrivals, 7.30 - 9pm debate.
Please can anyone who goes to these meetings report back on their
impressions.
If anyone knows of any other meetings around Scotland, please let us
know.
Best,
David Miller
