Dear List-members,

The link contains a short 'book', written in 1935 by a retired US Marine Corps Major General called Smedley Butler. The 'modernity' of the language is quite remarkable, especially if you do a simple compare/contrast exercise with some of the language being used by certain contemporary journalists and the other usual suspects. It's perhaps a curio more than anything else, but it would be nice to think that this man's take on War (and you can tell that he knew what he was talking about !) might still have relevance almost 70 years after he wrote it -  e.g. how does Colin Powell fare when matched against this guy ?
