Hi- While trawling through a sample of coverage at lunchtime, i generally found the USA coverage of Washington Post and New York Times to be remarkably worldly aware, when compared to the British Press's goldfish bowl approach. 2 articles which i will forward after this email illustrate this point. Both analyse how the world outside USA is covering the war originally in a rare example of mature journalism from a daily mass-market newspaper. The highlight of the article on how a German family are viewing the war through tv coverage is
"The group of viewers, as well as the professional analysts, praised German media for making an extra effort to identify their sources and for actively acknowledging the difficulty of obtaining accurate information in a war zone. The German media are doing that in part because they have fewer reporters on the front lines than Americans and British."
The whole article is worth reading as is the other including links to the world media's best cartoons around the world, my personal favourite was news international(Pakistan)depicting Israel as the puppeteer and Uncle Sam as the puppet.
Finallly, have to reprint the media's use of the hot cross buns story that was sent earlier.
’At a time of war in the Middle East and terrorist attacks carried out in the name of Allah, the buns and guns stories provide a way for some newspapers to update their assault on social trends that disturb them.
Sadly, the striking nature of the stories about the food bans and the rest are so visually striking that
they are likely to remain etched in the memory of the casual reader long after any kind of low-key retraction or apology has been printed; and, by the time the fuss dies down, they will have achieved their aim of oxygenating paranoia.’
