Perspectives - a poster session with a social dimension

EPSRC and MRC scientists, at the beginning of their career, are invited to
propose a poster exploring the social and ethical implications of their
research. Twenty-four scientists will be selected to design and exhibit
their poster at this year's BA Festival of Science, at the University of
Exeter, 6-10 September 2004.

The first prize winner will receive £500 prize money and the opportunity to
give a press conference at the Festival. Five runners-up will each get £250.

Perspectives allows scientists (postgraduate students and postdocs), to
obtain experience in discussing social implications of their research.

The successful applicants are invited to attend one workshop in London
(either on 13 or 21 July) to assist them in designing their poster and
preparing for the Festival.

The 24 scientists will be expected to present their posters to Festival
visitors at two sessions on the 8 and 9 September between 12 noon and 2.30
pm. At other times the scientists will have free access to festival events
at the university. Accommodation and travel will be provided by the BA.

The application form can be found at <http://www.the-ba.net/perspectives>
www.the-ba.net/perspectives. All applications must be submitted by MONDAY 14
June 2004. The successful applicants will be informed by 2 July and sent
detailed guidelines to assist with the design of their posters.

Could you please pass this information on to anyone in your department who
may be interested.

Perspectives is sponsored by the EPSRC and MRC.
