Dear Bergers,

If any of you is interested in the cultural development of our conceptions of animals and humans, the forthcoming ARED public lecture by Professor Erica Fudge may be a nice occasion. Please see below and related link.

All best wishes,
Giacomo

What were the animals thinking? The differences between theory and practice in early modern ideas

Public Lecture by Professor Erica Fudge (Strathclyde) on Friday October 13th at 6:00 pm in Campus Central 3.04. Join the ARED Team and the Stirling Science Festival to explore the development of our conceptions of animals and humans in the modern world. Professor Fudge is the director of the British Animal Studies Network, and author of several books and articles on the relation between human and non-human animals with a special focus on the modern period. Professor Fudge's critical discussion of the view that humans are the only rational animals, as articulated in works like Brutal Reasoning, is as relevant for modern versions of the view as it is for contemporary ones.
